Tennessee Senate recognizes pharmacists for efforts to combat drug abuse

(NASHVILLE, TN), June 15, 2011 –  The Tennessee Senate recently recognized six Tennessee pharmacists for their efforts to combat drug abuse.   The action to adopt Senate Resolution 53 came before the General Assembly adjourned in late May.

The pharmacists recognized were Brian Lott of Four Way Prescription Shop, Ben Lott of Four Way prescription Shop, Jennifer Sternthal of Walgreens, Larry Grub of Walgreens, Maja Mullen of Walgreens, and Lourdes York of CVS.   The resolution, sponsored by Senator Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge), not only recognizes the pharmacists for “excellence in meeting the medicinal needs of the community,” but for “an untiring vigilance against the overprescribing of controlled substances by mid-level and other practitioners.”

“It is sometimes difficult to stand up for patient safety,” said Senator McNally, who is a retired pharmacist.  “Such action deserves recognition.  These pharmacists’ efforts to combat drug abuse and prescriber overuse show their caring concern for the patients.  I was very pleased to sponsor this resolution recognizing their professionalism and service to their patients.”
