(NASHVILLE, TN), October 4, 2010 — State Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) has been appointed to serve as Vice-Chair member of the National Conference of State Legislature’s (NCSL) Law and Criminal Justice Standing Committee. Senator Beavers has served as Tennessee Senate Judiciary Chairman for the past four years and has been a member of the House and Senate Judiciary Committee during her legislative tenure.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve on this national committee in this capacity,” said Chairman Beavers. “There are many important matters which are before state legislatures across the country regarding our legal system and the courts, and I look forward to exchanging ideas and solutions on how we can make our states and neighborhoods safer.”
NCSL’s Standing Committees provide a forum for legislators and legislative staff to exchange information about developments in the states and to determine the group’s recommended policy positions on various legal matters. This has included such issues as drunk driving laws, sex offender legislation and court reform.
