Senator Watson working with state officials to help county assess damage to receive relief

(NASHVILLE, TN), March 2, 2010 — State Senator Bo Watson (R-Hixson) said today he is working with state officials as they assess the damages in order to qualify for federal assistance.  That designation would enable local governments and individuals to access critical federal grants and/or loans needed to help citizens recover from the damages sustained by Monday’s storms.

For counties to be considered, they must have enough damage as determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Damage assessments are still ongoing,” said Senator Watson.  “I will be on the ground to tour the damage tomorrow and look forward to talking with our local officials about any assistance I can give to expedite the matter.”

“Hopefully, our citizens will take immediate action to report their damages to local authorities.  This will allow us to start the clean up process so that we can rebuild and restore our communities and help citizens who suffered heavy damage due to the storms,” added Watson.
