Senator Overbey receives transportation award

(NASHVILLE, TN) — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) was recently recognized by the Tennessee Road Builders Association, receiving the group’s first award for legislative leadership.

“Senator Overbey is the first recipient of our Legislative Leadership Award,” said Kent Starwalt, Executive Vice President of the group.  “This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extra ordinary support of the transportation construction industry.  We appreciate his leadership in bringing better roads to Tennessee.”

In accepting the award, Senator Overbey said, “I am honored to receive this recognition from leaders in the transportation industry in our state.  We share much common ground in working to improve the safety of Tennesseans traveling on our roadways.  Tennessee is at the crossroads of travel to most major cities in the Eastern United States and many in  the nation’s heartland.  Our road infrastructure is extremely important in taking advantage of our key location to bring new jobs to Tennessee, especially industries which depend on a good transportation system.  I am pleased to partner with industry officials to improve our transportation infrastructure and our economic development potential.”

“In short, new and better roads often mean new and better jobs,” said Overbey.  “This award is very meaningful for that reason above all else.”
