(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) recently received the Outstanding State Senator of the 109th General Assembly Award by the Tennessee Cancer Patient Coalition. The award is to honor state legislators for their strong advocacy of policies designed to reduce the burden of cancer in Tennessee and improve treatment and the quality of life of those impacted by the disease.

Tennessee ranks 22nd in the nation in cancer diagnosis and is 5th in cancer deaths.

Don Denton, Coalition President, stated, “The Coalition is tremendously grateful for the moral leadership of Senator Doug Overbey in the State Legislature in promoting bills that would enable Tennessee’s cancer patients to receive the best treatment recommended by their physician. On behalf of our membership, it is our privilege to designate Doug Overbey as the Outstanding Senator of the Tennessee Legislature. We look forward to collaborating with him in the next General Session.”

“I appreciate the recognition from a group who is known for their strong advocacy on behalf of those who suffer from cancer,” said Senator Overbey. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Tennessee Cancer Patient Coalition and healthcare providers in the next General Assembly to make a positive difference in the lives of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers across Tennessee.”
