NASHVILLE, TN, November 10, 2011 – Local State Senator Bill Ketron has announced that Maury County is set to receive $500,000 in federal grant funds to improve sewer systems. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Maury County was announced today by Governor Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty who listed the block grant recipients for Middle and West Tennessee.
“I am pleased to announce that Maury County will receive this grant and want to thank our local officials who were instrumental in helping us secure these funds,” said Senator Ketron. “The grant will help us make needed sewage improvements available to our area.”
“This kind of infrastructure is very important to the well-being of our citizens and the overall economic development of our county,” he added. “Infrastructure is a key component of job creation.”
The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly. According to the Department of Economic and Community Development which administers the grant program, location of CDBG funds is based on priorities set at local levels where community needs are best known.
