(NASHVILLE, TN), January 17, 2015 — State Senator Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) has been appointed 2nd Vice-Chairman of Senate Government Operations Committee. Roberts was also appointed to the Senate’s Judiciary Committee and the Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 109th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville on Saturday.
The Senate Government Operations Committee oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies and councils of state government. The Senate Judiciary Committee is responsible for hearing all bills dealing with civil laws, criminal laws, judicial proceedings, apportionment of elected officials and governing bodies, and all matters relating to the courts, as well as law enforcement. The Senate Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee hears legislation concerning energy, agriculture, farming, forestry, natural resources, conservation, game, fish, mines and minerals.
“I am extremely pleased to be on all three of these committees, particularly the Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee because of the strength of agriculture in my rural district,” said Senator Roberts. “I am also pleased to be appointed to a leadership role on the Government Operations Committee as it is an opportunity to hold our boards and commissions accountable.”
The General Assembly will take a brief recess to make office assignments before convening the Special Session on Healthcare on February 2.
