Sen. Ketron elected to lead Fiscal Review Committee
(NASHVILLE, TN), February 25, 2009 — State Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) has been elected by his colleagues to lead the Fiscal Review Committee. Ketron was elected at a meeting on Monday to serve as Chairman of the joint House and Senate committee, which serves as the watchdog for all state government spending.
“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen by this bi-partisan group of my peers,” said Senator Ketron. “I appreciate the opportunity and challenge to serve as Chairman of this committee.”
“It is important that the taxpayers of this state know that every dollar of our state budget is spent wisely, especially in economically challenging times. The Fiscal Review Committee will seek ways to assure this is happening.”
The Fiscal Review Committee conducts a continuing review of the financial operations of state government. It also reviews state contracts and is responsible for preparing and distributing the fiscal notes that show how proposed legislation would impact state and local governments financially.
Senator Ketron, who is Deputy Speaker, also chairs the State and Local Government Committee in the Senate.
