NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Sen. Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) announced today the awarding of a $47,558 AmeriCorps State Grant to the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse (ECCPC). This investment will be matched locally for a total of $94,146 to support the service of AmeriCorps members in the organization’s One Child at a Time program.
Through the One Child at a Time program, AmeriCorps members help prevent child abuse and provide assistance and support to abused children and their families. Members mentor children, recruit new volunteers and provide educational and emergency assistance.
“I am pleased to welcome these funds into District 27 for this purpose,” said Jackson. “The greatest benefit of this grant lies beyond the training the AmeriCorps members will receive, but in the children who rely on the ECCPC for help and support.”
The grants will be used to fund training and orientation of the AmeriCorps members at three ECCPC locations in District 27.
For the 2017-2018 program year, 919 AmeriCorps members will serve over 1.3 million hours to meet the needs of over 54,000 people across the state. The 20 Tennessee AmeriCorps programs focus on children and youth through mentoring and tutoring, child abuse prevention and in-class teaching.
“I congratulate the ECCPC for securing these grant, and I look forward to seeing the ways they benefit our community,” added Jackson.
