(NASHVILLE, TN), January 14, 2011 — State Senator Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) has been reappointed Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 107th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville this week.
The Education Committee hears all matters pertaining to the state’s K-12 schools and higher education.
“I appreciate the confidence that Lt. Governor Ramsey has placed in me to serve again as Chairman of this Committee” said Sen. Gresham. “We must provide our students with the kinds of skills they need to succeed. We made a giant step during the 106th General Assembly in improving education in Tennessee. I look forward to working with my colleagues in continuing these improvements to help Tennessee students receive more opportunities to succeed and improve their quality of life.”
Gresham was also appointed to the Senate Transportation Committee and the Senate Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee. The Transportation Committee is responsible for reviewing all legislation having to do with roads, transit and rules of the road. The Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee hears legislation dealing with farming, economic development, business, insurance, and business regulations, as well as employment matters.
The General Assembly will take a brief recess after the inauguration of Governor Haslam to make office assignments before convening the regular 2011 legislative session.
