(NASHVILLE, TN), January 17, 2015 — State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) has been reappointed Chairman of the powerful Senate Health and Welfare Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 109th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville on Saturday.
“I appreciate the confidence that Lt. Governor Ramsey has placed in me to serve again as Chairman of this Committee” said Sen. Crowe. “We have lot of work to do in the coming months and I look forward to continuing to work on solutions to the many healthcare issues we face in Tennessee.”
The Health and Welfare Committee is responsible for legislation pertaining to public and private hospitals; institutions and services for the developmentally disabled; nursing homes; various health care professions, and all aspects of public welfare.
In addition, Senator Crowe was appointed to serve on the Senate Government Operations Committee and the Senate Education Committee. The Senate Government Operations Committee oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies and councils of state government. The Education Committee reviews all legislation regarding K-12 schools and higher education.
Now that the organization is completed, the General Assembly has adjourned until February 2, when they will meet in a special session regarding healthcare.
