(NASHVILLE), June 22, 2016 — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) has been appointed to Tennessee’s new Juvenile Justice Realignment Task Force charged with recommending new approaches to the administration of juvenile justice. The appointment was made by Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville) in accordance with Public Chapter 1057, co-sponsored by Overbey, which passed the General Assembly in April.
The task force includes legislators and members of the public who have experience or interest in children’s issues, as well as ex officio members from different state departments. The task force has been asked to particularly focus on the prevention of juvenile crime and delinquency.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on this task force,” said Sen. Overbey. “As a lawyer and a senator, I realize how vital it is to find solutions to deter juvenile crime and recidivism.”
“I am dedicated to finding a realistic answer that will balance accountability, public safety and the preservation of the rights of youths,” concluded Overbey.
The task force will report their findings by January 15, 2017.
