Local student takes part in legislative

(NASHVILLE, TN), May 22, 2009 – Local student, Jeremy Buckles, who recently graduated from Lenoir City High School, visited the State Senate on Wednesday where he served as Finance Committee Secretary for that day.  Buckles was the guest of Senate Finance Chairman Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge), who serves Loudon County in the State Senate.

Buckles was Salutatorian for Lenoir City High School, where he also served as President of the Student Body.  Among other duties, the Committee Secretary records and announces the votes on legislation pending before lawmakers.  Among key measures voted on during the committee was legislation to preserve the solvency of Tennessee’s Unemployment Compensation Fund and a Government Transparency Act.

“Jeremy is very involved in government and civic affairs in the community,” Chairman McNally said.  “He did a great job for our committee and it was a privilege to have him to take part in our proceedings.”
