(NASHVILLE, TN), December 9, 2010 – Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) was unanimously re-elected to the top Republican post by his colleagues in the Senate Republican Caucus. The election took place as the Republican Caucus met in an organizational meeting on Thursday.
“I appreciate the confidence of my Republican colleagues,” said Leader Norris. “I look forward to working with Governor-elect Haslam and our newly-elected House leadership to put people back to work, grow our economy, and ease the burden on Tennessee families and businesses.”
Norris was first elected Majority Leader in 2007. Before election to that position, he served as Republican Caucus Chairman. In August, Norris was also elected Chairman of the Council of State Governments’ Southern Legislative Conference at the organization’s national meeting.
In other positions elected by the Caucus, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville) was re-elected as the Caucus nominee for Senate Speaker/ Lt. Governor, Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) was elected Republican Caucus Chairman, Senator Bo Watson (R-Chattanooga) was elected Floor Leader, Senator Mae Beavers was re-elected Treasurer, Senator Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) was re-elected Secretary and Senator Steve Southerland (R-Morristown) was re-elected Chaplain.
The 107th General Assembly is set to convene on January 11.
