(NASHVILLE, TN), December 9, 2011 — Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) said today he has been informed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) that a $27,360 state grant has been approved for the Millington Regional Jetport Airport. The grant is available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Division.
Norris is a long time supporter of the Millington Airport. He was instrumental in keeping the airfield open when it was transferred from the Navy to a public-use general aviation airport in the late 1990s. He has bolstered it as an economic development tool for the community since that time. Norris said the funds from the grant will be used for signage upgrades.
“Airports are important for economic development, as well as use by local citizens,” said Norris. “This grant will assist us in making safety improvements at the Millington Jetport.”
The state grant will be matched by $3,040 in local funds for a total of $30,400.
