SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVES SEN. BEAVERS’ RESOLUTION TO LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE IF THEY WANT AN ELECTED STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL

This Week on Capitol Hill from Senator Mae Beavers / February 24, 2017

NASHVILLE – The General Assembly is now working at “full steam” as state senators examined the budgets of 11 agencies and departments of state government this past week and approved a number of important bills.

Transportation Funding / Block Grants — Among legislation that has been approved is a resolution that I am sponsoring urging President Donald Trump and the United States Congress to enact a law to establish a transportation block grant funding program for distribution to the states.

SENATOR ROBERTS AND SENATOR BEAVERS ADDRESS PARENTS’ CONCERNS REGARDING ACCESS TO MATERIALS USED IN THE TEACHING OF ISLAM

NASHVILLE — In response to the reported refusal by some Tennessee school districts to make teaching materials readily available to parents involving the religion of Islam, State Senators Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) and Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) issued the following statement:

“We have received reports that parents are being refused access to material used in 7th grade social studies regarding the teaching of Islam,” said Roberts and Beavers.

Rep. Pody and Sen. Beavers file “Tennessee Natural Marriage Defense Act”

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.), September 17, 2015 — State Representative Mark Pody (R-Lebanon) and Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Clay County Courthouse to receive Historic Preservation Grant

June 11, 2014

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) – Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) announced today that Clay County will receive a historic preservation grant.  The $7,200 grant will go to upgrade the electrical system in the courthouse.

“Our Clay County Courthouse is a historic treasure for local citizens that should be preserved for many years to come,” said Senator Beavers.
