Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) made the following statement concerning Tennessee receiving a AAA rating from Standard and Poor’s Rating Service.
“It takes teamwork to be “Triple-A All the Way” said Norris today.
As Republican Leader, Norris has sponsored and passed 6 balanced budgets in a row. He previously sponsored and enacted repeal of the gift tax and inheritance tax.
“Governor Haslam and his Commissioners have done a great job proposing budgets the General Assembly can get behind. Now, we are ahead of the game,” said Norris.
The Appropriations Act sponsored by Norris this year made record investments in education, transportation, and economic development. The Hall Tax was cut and no new debt was incurred.
“Our focus on the ‘Four E’s of Tennessee’ – employment, education, economic opportunity and enforcement of the law – makes all the difference,” said Norris.
“Tennessee has momentum. The best is yet to come if we continue to make the best of what comes our way. Working together for Tennessee, we will,” said Norris.
Senator Norris represents Senate District 32, which includes Tipton and Shelby Counties.
