Statement from Senator Ken Yager regarding Historical Commission grant to preserve Roane County’s Historic Courthouse

(NASHVILLE) – Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) made the following statement regarding the award of a $25,000 grant from the Historical Commission for the Roane County Heritage Commission’s efforts to preserve the historic courthouse.  Senator Yager strongly supported the grant and was in communication with the Historical Commission regarding its importance to the community:

“The grant from the state Historical Commission to the Roane Heritage Commission will provide much needed support for preservation of the historic courthouse, a priceless monument to our heritage,” said Senator Yager.  “The board has worked hard to merit this grant.  It is recognition of their efforts and the need to preserve one of only seven antebellum courthouses left in Tennessee.”

Sen. Yager is Chairman of the State and Local Government Committee which has oversight over 13 state departmental budgets, including the State Historical Commission.
