(NASHVILLE, TN), August 31, 2012 — Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) today made the following statement regarding the swearing in of Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Gary Wade as Chief Justice of the state’s highest court.
“This is a red letter day not just for Justice Wade, but for Sevier County and all of Tennessee,” said Senator Overbey. “It is a special day when one of Sevier County’s native sons and a former Sevierville Mayor is elevated to the Court of Criminal Appeals and then to the Tennessee Supreme Court. But it is an especially red letter day when he is sworn in as Chief Justice of the highest court in Tennessee.”
“He will provide outstanding leadership, not only to the Supreme Court, in this position of Chief Justice, but to all of our intermediate and trial courts, as well as to the legal profession as a whole.”
Wade will be sworn in at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 1 at the Sevier County Courthouse. Senator Overbey, who is an attorney, represents Sevier and Blount County in the Tennessee State Senate. He is Vice-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
