(NASHVILLE, TN), November 6, 2018 — Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Ferrell Haile (R-Gallatin) made the following statement regarding election night victories in all contested Republican seats in the Tennessee Senate:
“This is a huge victory,” said Speaker Pro Tem Haile. “We held every seat, despite some vigorous campaigns from Democrat challengers, indicating voters are very satisfied that we are moving in the right direction in Tennessee. You can’t argue with the results. We have historic low unemployment, wages are growing, education is improving and our state’s finances are top in the nation. These are results that matter, and it’s not surprising to see that reflected on election day.”
Senate Republicans hold a 28-5 super majority in the Tennessee General Assembly. Fourteen of the 18 seats up for election were held by the GOP, with eleven challenged by Democrats. Senate Democrats retained four of their five seats in the election in two Tennessee Counties, while Senate Republicans will continue to represent all 95 counties in the state.
