Senator Yager announces grant to address homelessness in Scott County

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.),  March 12, 2013 — State Senator Ken Yager (R-Harriman) said today a Scott County organization has been awarded a Emergency Solutions Grant to help the homeless.  The $73,500 grant will go to the Scott County Homeless Shelter and is administered by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA).

“I am very pleased this local organization will receive this grant,” said Senator Yager.  “Homelessness affects many Tennessee families and is particularly a problem for far too many of our veterans.  This grant will help us give those who are in need a hand up until they can get back on their feet.”

Veterans comprise 14% of the total homeless population.

The funding can be used for covering expenses for operating shelters and transitional housing facilities, social services, street outreach initiatives and re-housing assistance.
