(NASHVILLE), March 8, 2013 — State Senator Ken Yager (R-Harriman) said today he has been informed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) that the Rockwood Municipal Airport located in Roane County will receive two grants totaling $76,000.
The grants are available through TDOT’s Division of Aeronautics and totals $76,000 after a local match of $3,050 is added. The funds will be used for upgrades to the community hangar and the development of a property map.
“I am excited that these funds have been made available to the Rockwood airport.” Senator Yager. “They will enable the facility to make improvements that are needed.”
Except for routine expenditures, grant applications are reviewed by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission (TAC), which is a five member board charged with policy planning and with regulating changes in the state Airport System Plan. The Board carefully reviews all applications for grants to ensure that the proper state and local matching funds are in place and that the grants will be used for needed improvements.
Only eight airports in the state received funding during this round of grants.
“There are many local citizens who utilize this airport,” added Yager. “I am very pleased that these funds will be available to help with improvements and am hopeful that we will continue to see many more grants coming into Roane County in the future.”
