(NASHVILLE), January 22, 2013 — State Senator Ken Yager (R-Harriman), Representative Kent Calfee (R-Kingston) and Representative Ron Travis (R-Dayton) said today they have been informed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) that the Rockwood Municipal Airport will receive a $99,000 grant.
The grant is available through TDOT’s Division of Aeronautics and includes $89,100 in federal funds, $4,950 in state funds and $4,950 in local funds. The grant will be used for an above ground fuel tank.
“Our airports are a very important economic development tool,” said Senator Yager. “This grant will help make this airport’s infrastructure more attractive to industries or others that might consider locating here.”
Except for routine expenditures, grant applications are reviewed by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission (TAC), which is a five member board charged with policy planning and with regulating changes in the state Airport System Plan. The Board carefully reviews all applications for grants to ensure that the proper state and local matching funds are in place and that the grants will be used for needed improvements.
Only eight airports in the state received funding during this round of grants.
“This airport is utilized by many local citizens,” added Calfee. “We are pleased that this grant has been approved.”
“We will continue to work to bring our tax dollars back to Roane County,” Travis concluded.
