Senator Yager and Rep. Powers announce $47,605 Tourism Enhancement Grant for Campbell County

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.), January 19, 2017 – State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and Representative Dennis Powers (R-Jacksboro) announced today that Campbell County will receive a $47,605 Tourism Enhancement Grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The grant will be used to enhance Lonas Young Park, including extending an existing boat ramp, constructing a new boat ramp, providing lighting to the ramps, and replacing the roof on an existing structure.

The Tourism Enhancement Grants are funded through the Rural Economic Opportunity Act, co-sponsored by Yager and Powers, which is designed to improve the economic indicators in rural communities across Tennessee.

“Our parks are an important part of our communities,” said Senator Yager. “These funds will improve the park for local citizens and tourists alike. I congratulate our local officials who were instrumental in helping secure these funds.”

“This is a very exciting announcement for Campbell County,” said Rep. Dennis Powers. “Our partners at TN ECD realize how critical these assets are in regards to tourism and economic development.”

The park is used for fishing tournaments, sport events, and festivals. There are also baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, playground, walking track, beach area, primitive camping, and boat launch ramps.

An advisory committee made up of staff from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture selected the 29 communities from a pool of 50 grant applications.
