(NASHVILLE), January 9, 2013  — State Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) took the oath of office on Tuesday in Nashville as the 108th General Assembly was gaveled into session.  The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice William C. Koch, Jr. during the legislature’s three-day organizational session which will end on Thursday.

“I am honored to represent the 14th district in our State Senate for a third term,” said Senator Jim Tracy. “Over the past eight years I have been able to meet so many great people from Rutherford County all the way to Lincoln County. I will continue remain assessable and open to the citizens I represent. Tennessee is in much better shape then a lot of other states, but we still have hard work to do.”

The 14th district includes Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, and Moore County and parts of Rutherford County.  Tracy was first elected to the State Senate in 2004.

Other organizational tasks that will be taken up this week include the adoption of Senate rules, election of the state’s constitutional officers and election of the members of the General Assembly’s Joint Fiscal Review Committee.  The General Assembly will then recess for two weeks to allow for office assignments.
