(NASHVILLE), January 10, 2013 – State Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) has been reappointed Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation and Safety Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 108th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville this week.
“The health of our transportation system is key to Tennessee’s economic health,” said Senator Tracy. “We need sound infrastructure to attract new and better paying jobs to our state. We must also address a significant reduction in federal road funds.”
The Senate Transportation and Safety Committee is responsible for highways, roads and bridges; railroads; air, bus and vehicular transportation; rules and regulations for highways, and facilities in connection with and navigation of waterways, lakes and streams; and the Department of Safety.
Tracy will also serve as a member of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee. The Commerce and Labor Committee hears legislation dealing with economic development, business, insurance, and business regulations, as well as employment matters.
The General Assembly will take a brief recess to make office assignments and await budget details before convening the first full week of the regular 2013 legislative session on January 28.
