(NASHVILLE, TN), April 2, 2012 — State Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) said today he has been informed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) that a $45,000 grant has been approved for the Shelbyville Municipal Airport. The grant, which will be combined with a $15,000 local match, was recommended through the Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics.
“Our airports are essential to pave the way for economic development of our county,” said Tracy. “It is also important to the traveling public in our community. This grant will assist us in securing the appropriate grounds maintenance equipment to better serve those who utilize it.”
Except for routine expenditures, grant applications are reviewed by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission (TAC), which is a five member board charged with policy planning and with regulating changes in the state Airport System Plan. The board carefully reviews all applications for grants to ensure that the proper state and local matching funds are in place and that the grants will be used for needed improvements.
Senator Tracy is Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.
