Senator Steve Southerland and State Senator Rusty Crowe announce appropriations for Unicoi County

NASHVILLE, TN), September 17, 2012  – Senator Steve Southerland (R-Morristown) and State Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) announced today that during the fiscal year 2012-2013, Unicoi County will receive approximately $31.38 million in state appropriations.  Also, Unicoi County will receive a portion of the federal funds included in Tennessee’s $31 billion budget as adopted by the 107th General Assembly.

“This is great news considering it was a slim budget year,” said Senator Crowe.  “We tried to send as much in appropriations home to Unicoi County as possible.  I know how hard it is to make ends meet these days and I appreciate the very difficult job our city and county legislators do in putting a budget together for our communities.”

“The 2012-13 Budget represents a cooperative effort between the General Assembly and Governor Haslam,” added Senator Southerland.    “Working together, we were able to identify and eliminate wasteful spending, while meeting the needs of Unicoi County with additional funds.”

The 2012-2013 appropriations listed for Unicoi County in the following general categories are:  $13.14 million for K-12 Education; $1.2 million for transportation; $3.1 million in shared state tax collections; $9.99 million for health and social services; $2.78 million for justice and public safety; $871,000 for recreation and resources development; and $255,800 for economic development and higher education.

The county-by-county statistics are prepared by the Office of Legislative Budget Analysis, which works in concert with state finance officials in gathering the detailed information.
