Senator Overbey to be recognized for efforts to help citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities

(NASHVILLE, TN), April 24, 2012  — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) will be recognized by The Arc Tennessee for “having a positive impact in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”  Overbey will be honored at the group’s Tennessee Disability MegaConference on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 6:00 pm at the Nashville Marriott.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by Arc Tennessee,” said Senator Overbey.  “This group has worked tirelessly to help those with intellectual or developmental challenges.  It is a special honor to receive an award from such an inspiring group of Tennesseans.”

The Arc Tennessee is a family-based network of members and chapters that works to improve support and service systems; influence public policy; increase public awareness; and inspire inclusive communities for those with intellectual and developmental challenges.

In 2010, Sen. Overbey was named “Legislator of Year” by the Tennessee Network of Community Organizations (TNCO) and the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) for his efforts on behalf of those with intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
