NASHVILLE – State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) was among officials participating in the Grand Opening for the new Provision Center for Proton Therapy in Knoxville today. The special guest at the event was Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton. Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, Senator Becky Massey and Representative Roger Kane also participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Senator Overbey, Senator Massey and Representative Ryan Haynes were recognized for their legislative efforts this year to require insurance carriers to cover proton therapy. The Provision Center is currently treating 20 prostate cancer patients per day.
“This is a great facility for East Tennessee and one of 14 proton therapy centers in the nation,” said Senator Overbey. “This facility will advance cancer treatment and save lives.”
