SENATOR OVERBEY APPOINTED TO COUNCIL OF STATE GOVERNMENTS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

NASVHILLE — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) has been appointed as a member of the Council of State Governments’ (CSG) Leadership Council. The appointment was made by Senator Kelvin Atkinson of Nevada, CSG’s National Chair.

CSG is the only national organization serving all three branches of state government. It is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy.

“It is an honor to serve on this organization’s Leadership Council,” said Senator Overbey. “CSG offers unparalleled regional, national and international opportunities to network, develop leaders, collaborate and create problem-solving partnerships. I look forward to working with my colleagues in finding new solutions to the many challenges we face on the state level.”

The Leadership Council is a core group of 26 leaders from across the larger CSG organization and includes not only CSG’s national officers, but also the leaders from each of CSG’s four regions, representatives from CSG’s affiliate organizations and leaders from CSG’s key standing committees. It is tasked with overseeing the more immediate functions of CSG, such as official policies, approving interim policy statements and conducting organization-wide strategic planning, including CSG’s mission, scope of services, biennial work plan, and programming.

Overbey is also Co-Chair of CSG’s International Affairs Committee and a member of CSG’s Legal Task Force which reviews litigation in federal courts that may potentially impact the states or the fundamental tenets of the American federalism system.
