Senator Mike Bell gets key committee appointments

(NASHVILLE, TN), January 13, 2011 — State Senator Mike Bell (R-Riceville) received key Senate committee appointments today, including Vice-Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee and Secretary of the Judiciary Committee.

The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 107th General Assembly winds up their organizational session in Nashville this week.  Ramsey also appointed Bell as a member of the Senate Environment, Conservation and Tourism Committee.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve on these committees” said Senator Bell. “I also appreciate the confidence Lt. Governor Ramsey has placed in me to serve in leadership roles in the Senate Committee system.  We have much work ahead of us in 2011 and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate and House and with our new governor on the many challenges we face in Tennessee.”

The Judiciary Committee is responsible for hearing all bills dealing with civil laws, criminal laws, judicial proceedings, apportionment of elected officials and governing bodies, and all matters relating to the courts, as well as law enforcement.  The Government Operations Committee reviews all department and agencies of state government to improve efficiency and effectiveness.  The Senate Environment, Conservation and Tourism Committee hears all matters concerning energy, forestry, natural resources, conservation, game, fish, mines and minerals.

The General Assembly will take a brief recess to make office assignments before convening the regular session of the 2011 legislative year.
