(NASHVILLE, TN), January 13, 2015 — State Senator Brian Kelsey (R-Germantown) took the oath of office on Tuesday in Nashville as the 109th General Assembly was gaveled into session. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Holly Kirby during the legislature’s organizational session which will conclude after Saturday’s inauguration of Governor-elect Bill Haslam.
“I appreciate the continued support of the people of Cordova, East Memphis, and Germantown,” said Senator Kelsey. “I am grateful my constituents have entrusted me to represent them to the best of my ability, and I will continue to work hard for them.”
Other organizational tasks that will be taken up this week include the election of the state’s constitutional officers on Wednesday. Committee assignments will take place on Thursday. Senator Kelsey served as Judiciary Chairman in the last General Assembly. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 am on the War Memorial Plaza. The General Assembly will then take a two-week break to allow for office assignments before beginning the special session called by Governor Haslam on healthcare on Feb. 2.
