NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senate Education Committee Chairman Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) today announced that a meeting of the Senate K-12 Subcommittee has been scheduled for October 5th and 6th. The Subcommittee, which is chaired by Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga), will meet at 1:30 a.m. on October 5 and at 9:30 on October 6 in Room 12 of the Legislative Plaza in Nashville.
The committee, in examining the overall quality of K-12 education in Tennessee, will be discussing the recent TCAP and ACT scores. They will also be updated on the state’s TNReady test.
In addition, the committee will hear about the progress being made by the English Language Arts Standard Review and Development Committee and the Math Standards Review and Development Committee. The two committees are working on Tennessee-specific standards as a result of Public Chapter 423 passed by the General Assembly in April. That legislation required a process by which the Tennessee Standards were to be developed.
