Environment Policy Task Force
(NASHVILLE, TN), February 20, 2009 – State Senator Steve Southerland (R-Morristown) has been named to a national policy group on energy and the environment. Southerland was appointed as a member of the Council of State Government’s Energy and Environment Task Force at the recommendation of Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey.
CSG’s Energy and Environment Policy Group tracks national conditions and emerging trends, identifies innovative and effective solutions, and transforms these solutions into viable policy positions and response projects. Southerland, who is Chairman of the Senate Environment, Conservation and Tourism Committee, said states play a central role in managing natural resources and protecting the environment.
“I look forward to serving on this national Task Force,” said Senator Southerland. “Energy and the environment are at the forefront of top issues in this nation, both at the state and at the federal levels. Whether it is protecting water resources; ensuring an adequate, reliable energy supply; or dealing with hazardous wastes, these issues are critical to the quality of life for our citizens. I look forward to serving with other state and national leaders to put forth innovative initiatives that will move America forward, while preserving our vast resources for future generations to enjoy.”
The appointment starts immediately and extends through 2011.
