NASHVILLE, Tenn., September 19, 2013 — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) today congratulated Maryville resident Will Carver for being appointed to the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation Board of Directors. The appointment was made by Governor Bill Haslam who announced numerous appointments to Tennessee boards and commissions today.
“Will is an excellent choice for the Education Lottery Corporation Board,” said Senator Overbey. “He brings a keen sense of business and a passion for education to the Board. This Board is very important to the future of scholarships for Tennessee students and I know that he will provide much insight on how we can preserve and improve scholarship opportunities.”
State law authorizing the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation calls for a seven-member Board of Directors to oversee the Lottery’s creation and ongoing operation. The Board, comprised of business people from across the state, meets regularly to set policy and maintain appropriate oversight.
As of July, total Lottery funding for education-related programs in Tennessee—including funds used for scholarships, grants, and after-school programs—now exceeds $2.73 billion since ticket sales began in January 2004.
