Sen. Overbey Appointed to Key Mental Health Post

(NASHVILLE, TN), June 16, 2011 — State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) has been reappointed to Tennessee’s Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Statewide Planning and Policy Council.  The announcement to reappoint Overbey to a three-year term on the Council was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville) in Nashville this week.

“Senator Overbey brings tremendous leadership and experience to this panel,” said Ramsey.  “I appreciate his willingness to serve in this capacity.”

The Council assists Tennessee’s Department of Mental Health in planning a comprehensive service system and offers advice on policy, budget requests, legislation, operation of the department’s programs and facilities, and evaluation of services and supports.

Overbey is a member of the Senate Health and Human Resources Committee and has received numerous recognitions for his efforts to provide Tennessee citizens with access to mental health services.

“I am honored to continue to serve on the Council,” Overbey said.  “There are many issues we face to remove barriers to care.  I appreciate Lt. Governor Ramsey for his confidence in reappointing me to this post and look forward to continuing to find solutions to help those who face mental illness in our state.”
