Sen. Ketron appointed Deputy Speaker of State

(NASHVILLE, TN), January 15, 2009State Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) has been appointed Deputy Speaker, a key leadership role in the State Senate.  Ketron will also remain Chairman of the Senate State and Local Government Committee.  The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 106th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville today.

  “I am honored to be appointed as Deputy Speaker of Senate,” said Senator Ketron.   “We have many challenges before us this year and I look forward to helping forge solutions to some of the tough issues we face.”

     As Deputy Speaker, Ketron will serve on three key Senate Committees, including State and Local Government, Education, and Commerce, Labor and Agriculture.   He will also assist the Lt. Governor in other key policy roles.

     “Senator Ketron has shown his ability to serve in a number of key leadership roles,” said Lt. Governor Ramsey.  “He has proven his ability to work in a bi-partisan fashion to offer solutions to some of the most difficult issues we have faced.  I look forward to working with him as our Deputy Speaker.”

     Now that the organization is completed, the General Assembly has adjourned until February 9 in order to make office assignments and await budget details.
