Sen. Jackson appointed Vice-Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee

(NASHVILLE, TN), January 17, 2015 — State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) has been appointed 1st Vice-Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee.  The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 109th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville on Saturday.

The Senate Government Operations Committee oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies and councils of state government.  The Committee also hears bills regarding licensing and certification of occupational and professional groups, as well as reviewing regulations promulgated by state government entities.

In addition, Senator Jackson was appointed to the Senate’s Health and Welfare Committee and the State and Local Government Committee.  The Health and Welfare Committee is responsible for legislation dealing with public and private hospitals; institutions and services for the developmentally disabled; nursing homes; various health care professions, and all aspects of public welfare.  The State and Local Government Committee hears all matters pertaining state and local governments in general, including utility districts, employees, ordinances, boundary lines, veterans affairs, penal and correctional institutions, alcoholic beverages and election laws.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve on these committees” said Senator Jackson. “I also appreciate the confidence Lt. Governor Ramsey has placed in me to serve in a leadership role in the Senate Committee system.  We have much work ahead of us in 2015 and I look forward to working with my colleagues and with Governor Haslam on the many challenges we face in Tennessee.”

The General Assembly will take a brief recess to make office assignments before convening the Special Session on Healthcare on February 2.
