Sen. Jack Johnson appointed Chairman of Senate
Government Operations Committee
(NASHVILLE, TN), January 15, 2009 – State Senator Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 106th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville today.
“I am honored to be appointed as chairman of this committee,” said Sen. Johnson. “The Government Operations Committee touches almost every part of state government and public policy. I look forward to the challenge of providing effective leadership to operate our state government and its agencies in an efficient and effective manner.”
The Committee is responsible for legislation concerning the creation of new departments, commissions, boards, and agencies or councils of state government. It also considers the reauthorization of existing departments, commissions, boards, agencies or councils of state government; licensing and certification of occupational and/or professional groups; and review of regulations promulgated by Tennessee departments, commissions, boards or agencies.
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Government Operations Committee, Senator Johnson was also appointed to the Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee and the Environment, Conservation and Tourism Committee.
Now that the organization is completed, the General Assembly has adjourned until February 9, when Governor Phil Bredesen will present his budget.
