(NASHVILLE, TN), January 10, 2013— State Senator Ferrell Haile (R-Gallatin) has been appointed to two key committees in the Tennessee State Senate, including the powerful Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee which holds the purse strings for all of state government. Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey made the appointment as the General Assembly winded up its organizational session for the 2013-14 legislative sessions.
Senator Haile will serve as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Government Operations Committee which oversees legislation to create, reauthorize, reorganize or sunset departments, commissions, boards, agencies or councils of state government. The Committee also hears bills regarding licensing and/or certification of occupational and/or professional groups and reviews regulations promulgated by Tennessee departments, commissions, boards or agencies.
The Senate Finance Committee has the responsibility for considering all measures dealing with the appropriation of state funds and has oversight over legislation pertaining to bonds, pensions, investments or indebtedness.
“I am especially pleased to be appointed to the Finance Committee as a freshman legislator as it is a high priority on many legislators’ list for appointments,” said Sen. Haile. “I appreciate Lt. Governor Ramsey’s confidence in me and know that it will be a very challenging budget year. I am also looking forward to serving on the Government Operations Committee. Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our state government is very important matter to all Tennesseans.”
The General Assembly will take a brief recess until January 28 to make office assignments before convening the regular 2013 legislative session.
