Sen. Dolores Gresham appointed Chairman of Senate
(NASHVILLE, TN), January 15, 2009 – State Senator Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. The announcement was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey as the 106th General Assembly concluded their organizational session in Nashville today.
“I am very humbled to be appointed as Chairman of our Education Committee,” said Sen. Gresham. “I look forward to working with my fellow members of this committee to assure that every student in Tennessee has the opportunity to succeed.”
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Education Committee, Senator Gresham was also appointed to the Transportation Committee. That committee is also expected to review critical legislation regarding the state’s road improvement program.
Senator Gresham spent three terms in the House of Representatives on the House Education Committee where she was Vice-Chairman of the Higher Education Subcommittee. Gresham, who retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of Lt. Colonel, resides with her husband Will on a cattle farm east of Somerville.
Now that the organization is completed, the General Assembly has adjourned until February 9, when Governor Phil Bredesen will present his budget.
