(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — Roane County’s legislative delegation said today they are pleased that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has ordered a safety review on the stretch of I-40 at mile marker 341 near the Harriman exit. The location has been the site of two significant traffic crashes recently involving tractor trailer trucks.
Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston), Representative Kent Calfee (R-Kingston) and Ron Travis (R-Dayton) said the review is needed to investigate any possible anomalies or other road condition that hamper safety on the road.
“The focus is safety,” said Senator Yager. “Looking beyond human error, if there are any improvements or changes that need to be made to enhance safety, we need to identify them and put them into place as soon as possible.”
The study includes an analysis of the recent crashes. In addition, TDOT’s Regional Traffic Office is reviewing signs and markings on the road. Yager said the delegation will be following the study as it progresses.
“This is a very important step in helping ensure the safety of not only those who live in this area, but also the hundreds of people who travel this stretch of road every single day from other areas of the state and country,” said Representative Travis. “I am thankful TDOT has ordered this safety review and look forward to seeing improvements made in the near future.”
