Norris Continues to Promote “Green Travel”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) announced today that the Tennessee Department of Revenue has begun
accepting applications for the SmartPass which will allow drivers of approved hybrid vehicles to drive in high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. Norris, the prime sponsor of the Senate bill creating the SmartPass program, hopes the new allowance will help to further reduce congestion by putting more cars out of vacant lanes.
“The HOV lanes are under-utilized,” says Norris. “This reduces congestion without the expense of building new lanes, and it encourages the use of more fuel-efficient hybrids.”
SmartPass applications are being accepted by the Department of Revenue online or by mail. Information about the program is available at http://www.tennessee.gov/revenue/vehicle/hovpass.htm or by calling 1-888-871-3171.
Senator Norris, who has served District 32 since 2000, represents the West Tennessee Counties of Shelby, Tipton, Lauderdale, and Dyer.
