General Assembly honors Maryville College Basketball Coach Randy Lambert

(NASHVILLE, TN), March 23, 2012  – Maryville College Basketball Coach Randy Lambert was honored by the State Senate on Thursday as State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) presented him with a congratulatory resolution for achieving his 600th victory.   Also in attendance in the Senate Chamber at the State Capitol were local Representatives Art Swann and Bob Ramsey, and Maryville College President Tom Bogart.

“In the middle of Blount County is a jewel known as Maryville College,” said Senator Overbey.  “It is an anchor for our community, and right in the middle of Maryville College is Coach Randy Lambert.  He has been there for 32 years as head men’s basketball coach and the reason we asked him to be with us today is to celebrate his 600th victory in his basketball program.”

Senate Joint Resolution 627  states “Throughout his estimable career, Coach Lambert has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues, players, and the good people of Maryville.  It is wholly fitting that this body formally recognize Coach Lambert, both for this latest accomplishment and for his many contributions to the game of basketball.”

Overbey said Lambert is only the 10th coach in the history of Division 3 basketball to reach the 600th victory level and is the 59th across all divisions.  He is the 5th to reach it for their alma mater.

“Coach Lambert’s long history at the college is full of not only wins on the court, but wins off the court as he has helped young men and young women in his role of athletic director for many years develop to the best of their potential,” said Bogart, who addressed the State Senate.  “It is wholly fitting for this body to recognize him today.  I am proud to be here to be part of it.”

“I just want to thank all of you for this opportunity,” said Lambert.  “It is very nice and very humbling to stand before you.”
