Sen. Gresham announces over $1 million in grants for school districts to improve school safety

(NASHVILLE) – Today Senator Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) announced over $1 million in state grants for school districts she represents to improve school safety and security. These grants include $302,140 in Safe School grants, which are recurring funds and $755,340 in School Safety and Security grants, which are one-time funds.

Governor Haslam appoints Sen. Gresham to working group reviewing school safety

(NASHVILLE), March 5, 2018 – Governor Bill Haslam has appointed Senate Education Committee Chairman Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) to a working group reviewing school safety in Tennessee.  The 17-member group is comprised of leaders from the executive branch, education, mental health and safety.  Gresham is one of four members of the General Assembly appointed to the study.

Legislation aims to prevent sexual misconduct by teachers with their students

NASHVILLE, (January 31, 2018) – Senate Education Committee Chairman Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville), along with members of the Senate Education Committee, have filed five bills to prevent sexual misconduct by teachers with their students.  The legislative package follows a comprehensive report from Tennessee Comptroller Justin Wilson which revealed deficiencies in hiring practices for school personnel that could allow predators to slip through the cracks.

Local education agencies to receive school-based health services reimbursements for Medicaid-eligible children

NASHVILLE — Senate Health and Welfare Committee Chairman Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) today congratulated Commissioner of Education Candice McQueen and TennCare Director Wendy Long for finding a solution that will allow local education agencies to receive reimbursement for school-based health services rendered to Medicaid-eligible children.  The solution comes after two meetings of the joint Senate Health and Welfare Committee and the Senate Education Committee were held last year on the matter.

Sen. Gresham announces nearly $500,000 in Clean Tennessee Energy Grants to District 26

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Sen. Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville) announced the awarding of $471,534.50 in Clean Tennessee Energy Grants (CTEG) to Fayette, Haywood and McNairy Counties. Gresham was informed of the grant being awarded by Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau.

Sen. Gresham encourages local schools to nominate recycling efforts for GSAR recognition
